Burlington’s cross country teams competed last week in Powell with the high schoolers finishing their regular season and the middle schoolers performing at their conference meet.

“The weather was nice and we always like the course, where coaches and parents can see their runners at multiple locations,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “At this time of year, we love to see us peaking at the right time and our team was loaded with personal best times. We had 10 of our 15 runners get personal best times, which shows their work ethic throughout the season and their commitment to improving.”

“Kellen Winters was pushed at various times of the race, leading to his first-place finish and his season-best time of 16:05. James McNiven beat his course personal best time by 51 seconds. Kelli McNiven, our top girl runner, also got a personal best.”

The middle school’s conference meet finished up the season for the 11 younger athletes. “They finished strong, with Jaxon Buck getting his personal best time for the distance. Our middle school girls also all ran strong races. These middle schoolers have a lot to be proud of this year, working out with the high school every day and seeing great improvement. We have some real talent in our middle school and it will be fun to see what they do in the future.”

With only two weeks of competition left in the 2025 season, the Huskies are gearing up for conference and state. “We’re going to work hard to stay focused on sleeping, hydrating and fueling. We’ll be ready to roll at our conference meet this Friday and the state meet next weekend,” said Olson.

The Five Rivers Conference Meet will be held Friday in Ethete with JV/V girls starting at 2 and JV/V boys starting at 3 p.m.
