Basin trap team starts new this season
Riverside is once again up and running with its trapshooting team. There are 13 athletes this year and Calvin Brown and Trevor Whitaker are the coaches. Riverside will compete in Conference 2 and be joined by Goshen County, Kemmerer, Sundance, Wheatland, Wright and Burlington.
Shooting competitions are held each week with each athlete shooting two rounds of trap and scoring is based on broken clays. Scores are tallied and submitted into the League each week and results are posted to compare scores between schools in the conference.
It has been a community effort for the Rebels.
“The gun club’s relationship with our school has been important in making sure things run smoothly,” said Coach Calvin Brown. “We have been fortunate to have full support and a lot of volunteer help from some of the trap enthusiasts in our community.
“Over the last three years, Mark Stephens, Edward Ashment, Sean Foote, Brad Campbell and Eric Anderson have spent a lot of personal time making sure everything is ready for the kids to use the facility. They do everything from setting up the trap fields and maintaining the machines to teaching kids and providing shooting tips.”
One of the trap houses was down this week, so Riverside will be shooting for its first competition week Thursday night.
