Basin school board rewards super with four-year contract

Big Horn County School District No.4’s Board of Trustees saw the best of the best of the student body during an intermission to their typical meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10, with the entire board attending the National Honor Society induction ceremony and Parade of Champions in the Riverside Middle High School commons. Students elementary through high school were honored, and the school board welcomed them to the stage to shake their hands. 

On the regular agenda, the board renewed the contract of Keith Campbell, in his first year in the position of superintendent, for four years after an extensive executive session. School boards will typically offer a two-year contract, but board chair Heath Hopkin noted that Basin has offered four years before. He reported that Campbell wanted to become established and move forward in the position, and the board agreed. 

“That’s awesome, thank you very much,” Campbell said in regard to the offer. “I would be happy to accept.” 

The board voted unanimously in favor of the contract extension. 

On the subject of staffing, Toby Wood and Katie Winters were hired as high school track coaches. The board also accepted the resignation of language arts, drama and speech and debate advisor Kaitlyn Miller. 

No public comment was received on the four-day school week, with the last opportunity for public input set for the March 10 meeting at 7 p.m. before the board votes on whether or not to apply for the change with the state.
