Basin Beautification Committee hard at work

You may have noticed there are now flowers in the Chamber (flower) pots on Fourth and C Street along with American flags. The project was a joint effort between the town’s Beautification Committee and Laura Irwin Elementary’s pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grades.

Committee members Diana Burch and Wende Crowe placed the flowers by the pots prior to the students’ field trip to downtown. The students then planted the flowers and flags.

The beautification committee has active on several fronts. Crowe, Burch and Karen Scott volunteered to re-stain the picnic tables in Washington Park. The park falls under Big Horn County but since it such a great part of Basin the committee thought the tables could use some TLC. The county provided the stain and the brushes.

Basin Yard of the Month is back thanks to the volunteers of the committee. Robin Marich seeks nominations from the volunteers and keeps track of the votes. Once the yard is chosen, a Yard of the Month sign is displayed in the yard. Basin Town Councilperson Linda Weeks brought the Yard of the Month idea to the committee last year. She said it has been fun and a great way to acknowledge residents’ hard work in making their yard beautiful. Anyone can nominate a yard by calling town hall at 307-568-3331.

Volunteers Marich, Weeks, Danae Bales, Crowe, Burch and Janet Gammell also did a spring clean-up at Russell Park including adding two chamber flowerpots. A Town of Basin flag was purchased last year and flies over the park.
