Artist showcase reception produces great turnout

Skillman Art Productions held a second artist showcase reception on April 29 featuring local artists Rebecca Kinane and Linda Jolley.
Robert Skillman said the studio does a showcase every two months to highlight artists. “Our goal is to get one out-of-town artist and one local. This time we couldn’t find an out-of-town artist for this date. So, this time we have two great local artists.”
He said this showcase features very different styles. Jolley is more realism while Kinane is abstract with vibrant colors. That is one of the good things about having two artists, he said. The art will be on display until the next showcase and is available for purchase.
Also in the studio is work by Deanna Skillman, who owns Art Productions with Robbie. Her work is always in the studio. He described her work as a vibrant native American style.
Deanna said she was happy with the turnout on a Tuesday night in April. When they were planning to open the business, they weren’t going to do art shows. “I thought, why not do exhibitions. I know a lot of out of area artists and thought why not feature them with a local artist.
The Skillmans said they invite the community and put on a spread that features food and wine.
Jolley said the showcase is fun and she is grateful for the opportunity provided by the Skillmans. “It really does showcase your art. There are a lot of people that know we are artists but don’t really know what we do. She noted that in addition to the original works, prints are available for some of the works.”
Kinane said it is an honor to be showcased at a gallery. “It is always great to get your work out in front of people. You get to meet new people and tell your story. It is important to the entire process.”
The next showcase is in two months. The artists are local photographer Morgan Flitner and Karen Barton from Buffalo.
