Hard work and focus is the name of the game for Burlington’s speech and debate team members and they continue to see success with their efforts.

“The team eagerly seeks feedback from judges to use in practice the following week,” said Coach Scott McBride. “The team performances continue to get better and better.”

Burlington competed last weekend in Basin at the Jurassic Classic. The team took first place in the 1A/2A Sweepstakes and saw its team members breaking into the finals and placing well. Jessica Mendez-Perez won first place in Oratory and fourth in POI (Program Oral Interpretation), Kitzen Schatz earned third in Student Congress and fourth in Impromptu, David McBride took fourth in Student Congress and second in Duet with Orabella Heaton, Aubbri Wagner earned sixth in Informative, Raygen Andrew won first in Informative.

“We are headed into the later part of the season and the team is staying focused, setting goals and working hard to improve their pieces,” said McBride. “We have a large speech meet this coming weekend in Riverton. It will help us prepare for the national qualifiers meet and the state meet in March. Leah St. Clair and I are very proud of the team and their hard work and pinpoint focus on improving.”
