Rebels beat Ten Sleep, lose to 2A opponents
Thursday was the pink game at Greybull. It was a competitive game for the Rebels but the Greybull Buffaloes managed to squeeze out more points to take home the win, 56-45.
“We played hard and I thought we executed well defensively, we didn’t shoot as well as we would have liked and still turned the ball over too much, but we had several of the guys step up for us on both ends of the floor,” said Coach Scott Winters. “We ran a zone and I felt like all the boys rotated well and we were able to force some turnovers.
“We just weren’t able to get enough stops to win.”
The Rebels played another conference game on Friday, Feb. 7, this time at home against the Ten Sleep Pioneers. It ended in a 52-39 victory.
According to Coach Winters: “We started out strong and played a really good first half on both ends of the floor. We forced a lot of turnovers and were able to transition well. I thought we had really good ball movement and the boys made quick passes to get the ball down the floor quickly.”
The Rebels were able to use this game to get some of the players that haven’t had much game time to get some minutes. “I thought everyone played well that came in the game. It was good to see several guys contributing on the stat sheet,” Coach Winters added.
The last game of the week was on Saturday against the Shoshoni Wranglers on their home court. Coach Winters commented on the team’s challenges last week and for that game specifically, saying, “We didn’t play bad, but I think having three games in three days showed on Saturday. We ran our zone press and in the second half we kind of fell apart and didn’t rotate the way we needed to in order to get stops. They forced a lot of turnovers and that led to a lot of fast break points for them. They are a deep team and did a great job of running the floor and getting back on defense.”
The Rebels have a few players dealing with injuries so that was a factor as well as the total time spent travelling and playing simply taking its toll on the team. The Rebels host Meeteetse today (Thursday, Feb. 13) at 7 p.m. and play in Dubois Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
