Superintendent Ilg informs us that he and his men are working hard on the business of clearing the slide at Fifteen-mile and that he hopes to have water in the canal by May 1.
That is a fine improvement that is being made at the intersection of Fourth and A streets, where The Wyoming Gas Company, Thompson Lumber & Hardware Company and Dave Johnson have joined together to make the streets at that corner the best in Basin. The streets are being graded, gravelled and curbed. Gutters are being placed and drains provided and there will be no more bog holes at that street intersection.
Mr. Johnston, who has charge of the city grader, has done a good job of smoothing down the streets, and it is our judgment that they look better today than ever before.

The Basin Volunteer Fire Department was called twice during the latter part of last week. Both alarms were the results of minor fires involving trash, leaves and the like. One of the fires, a windbreak fire that threatened for a time to be more serious drew firemen to the John Kraft residence on Orchard Bench. Burning rubbish and dry undergrowth was being whipped by the wind that carried the flames toward the Kraft home. Harvey and Bob Wrigley and Mrs. Kraft were battling the blaze when the firemen arrived.
Mrs. R.J. (Eleanor) O’Neill will retire next month after a lifetime in the teaching profession. A teacher in the Basin system for 29 years, she is a graduate of the state teacher’s college in Balley City, N.D. Through the years, she has continued her education at Eastern Montana State at Billings, Montana State University, the University of Wyoming and last summer at the University of California, San Diego. Mrs. O’Neill came to Basin in the fall of 1939. Three years later, she married Reginald J. O’Neill.
