Lady Huskies fall to Rocky in Homecoming game
Thursday was a night for great volleyball as Burlington hosted district rival Rocky Mountain in a match that went to five games with lots of rallies and great moments for the Lady Huskies. “That was a roller coaster game,” said Coach Erin Bassett. “Overall, there were a lot of things to be excited about. We have struggled the past few weeks with our intensity and teamwork, so it was refreshing to see them playing with a high level of intensity and as good teammates. I think sets two and three were true markers of our abilities and potential. We still have a few bugs to work out, but what a great game to come together and work!”
The Lady Huskies lost the first game, 24-26, easily won the next two, 25-11 and 25-8, and then lost the final two games, 19-25 and 15-17. “Luckily we have another shot at Rocky in a few weeks. We are headed down the final stretch and have no doubts that when we play as a team, we accomplish great things.”
Orabella Heaton led the team defensively in perfect passes and had 12 digs. Naomi McNiven also had 12 digs followed by Paxton Philpott with nine, Eve McNulty seven, Adison Haslam with five and Dalley Bassett with four.
Offensively, Sarah McNiven led with 16 kills, two solo blocks and six assisted blocks. Philpott was close behind with 10 kills and one block assist. Hailee Winterholler had seven kills, one solo block and four assisted blocks. N. McNiven had five kills, five block assists and one solo block. Bassett had five blocks and two assisted blocks. Haslam had two kills, two assisted blocks and 38 assists.
Philpott led the team from the serving line with four aces, N. McNiven had three, McNulty two, Winterholler one and Bassett one. Bassett was also 100% from the serving line.
“We look forward to a week of hard work to prepare for our game against Riverside. It is the last slow week for us and then play picks up with three games the week before Regionals,” said Bassett.
The Lady Huskies will play Arapaho on Thursday in Burlington at 5 p.m. and head to Basin on Friday with games at 5 and 6 p.m.
