Huskies defeat the Longhorns and Eagles

The Burlington Huskies added two more conference wins against Meeteetse and St. Stephens this past week. 

Hosting Meeteetse on Thursday night, Burlington came out strong and outscored the Longhorns and led at halftime 30-19. Meeteetse, which lost its main scorer a couple of weeks ago to an injury, stepped up and challenged the Huskies but Burlington eventually prevailed 59-37. 

Weston Gotfredson led the team with 14 points, Bitner Philpott had a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and three steals and Rykael Andrew added eight points and seven rebounds. 

Saturday in St. Stephens proved to be a battle for the Huskies. In a tightly officiated game that resulted in 45 called fouls, Burlington scored 20 points from the charity stripe in a 59-48 win.

The Huskies led for most of the first half, but a couple of turnovers and a big three from the Eagles tied the score at 27. St. Stephens took the lead toward the end of the second quarter. Burlington regained it, though, and went into halftime up 32-29. St. Stephens outscored the Huskies in the third quarter and led going into the fourth quarter, but it was all the Huskies from there and they won by 11. 

Jordan Casey contributed 11 points and three rebounds and Philpott had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals. Gotfredson led rebounding with nine and added six points and Bruce McNiven added eight rebounds and nine points. 

The Huskies will have a C game at home against Lovell on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. and will head to Dubois on Saturday with a tip-off of 1:30 p.m.
