Hello from the Basin Library

The month of May will be a fun time at our library. We’ll be welcoming spring babies, baby chicks to be exact. Our Story Time kids filled the incubator April 24,  so we expect them to hatch May 15. We’ll keep them around for a few days so feel free to come down and help us name them. This is something that we have done for the last 2 years and the kids love it.

Fridays are kids’ days here at the Basin Library. Story Time and Crafts start off at 10:30 for preschool then at 11:30 we have elementary age. Afternoon activities start at 2:00. Friday May 1 we will be making seed bombs, May 8 there will be board games, May 15 is Lego Club, board games again on the May 22,  and Chess Club on the last Friday May 29. 

Adult book club is on the last Wednesday of the month, May 27. This month will be The Wild Inside by Christine Carbo. An exciting thriller set in Montana’s Glacier National Park.

Our staff is busy as can be getting ready for our June Summer Reading Program. The theme this year is “Unearth a good story”, and that means DINOSOURS!! Look for our mascot Digby, hiding in our library. How about making your own pirates’ treasure chest and finding out about underground creatures? We have activities scheduled for Wednesday and Friday at 11:00. Three guest speakers are all set to wow you with local artifacts and activities. 

New books are arriving that will fit into our reading challenge, along with our prizes. Sign-up sheets will be available May 15. Big “Thank You” shout-out to the Friends of the Basin Library and the Big Horn County Library Foundation for funding all of our Summer Reading programs. Stay tuned for happenings in July and August. The fun never stops!

We expanded our series collection for elementary age readers with The Owl Diaries and The Unicorn Diaries, both by Rebecca Elliott. We filled in the gaps of Jordon Quinn’s Dragon Kingdom of Wrenly graphic novel series, in anticipation of the release of book 12, Exit Elsewhere.
