Residents are encouraged to bring their glass to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Basin for recycling. The church and Powell Recycling Center have joined forces to provide a collection place at St. Andrew’s in Basin. There will also be bins in Cody and Powell.

A black bin has been placed between the church’s two brown storage sheds in their parking lot located at 401 South Eighth Street. It is clearly marked “glass.”

The collected glass will be taken to Powell, where it will be crushed. The crushed glass is made into quality sand. It takes quite a bit of glass to make a bag of the sand. The sand will be sold to help offset the cost of the running the crusher.  The crusher was purchased with a grant from the Episcopal Church.

The lids of the glass bottles, jars, etc., should be removed prior to placing in the recycling bin. Businesses that generate a  high volume of glass throwaways may request to have a bin placed near their business.

Local organizer Cindy Schlattmann is excited to help keep glass out of the landfills. She is one to contact with questions or to request a bin. Her phone number is 307-272-7037.
