Burlington’s speech team was at it again this weekend, competing in an online tournament hosted by Kelly Walsh High School. The tournament featured 14 teams from Wyoming and some from across the country including Colorado, Arizona, New Jersey, Ohio and South Dakota.

“Students recorded their performance and it was uploaded into the tournament system called Tabroom,” said Coach Scott McBride. “Judges watched the recording and scored performances.”

When it came to Congress though, competitors debated in a virtual live. “David McBride and Kitzen Schatz took part in Congress. They gave speeches and defended their position on bills created by either themselves or other competitors,” said Coach McBride. “Congress started at 10  a.m. and finished at 5:30 p.m. with a few short breaks. They worked hard and did a great job.”

The team took first place in the sweepstakes. Raygen Andrew took sixth place overall in Informative. Schatz broke into semifinals in Congress and Impromptu, Sky Olsen broke in Original Oratory, and Orabella Heaton broke in Poetry. “We received good feedback that we will use for the upcoming meets,” ended McBride.

Burlington’s team will be co-hosting with Greybull this weekend.
