Burlington harriers race in Worland

With only two regular season meets remaining, Burlington’s cross country Team is holding steady and competing strong. Running in the Worland meet is one of the Husky’s favorite places to compete. “They have a great golf course to run on and there are a lot of places for parents and coaches to watch the runners,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “Our freshmen continue to do amazing things this year. Kelli McNiven beat her own school record, finishing in 19:23 and finishing third in a very talented field. Kellen Winters placed first, finishing within one second of his school record. As they continue to improve each week, I’m thinking I should probably wait to update the record board until the end of the season.”

Some of the team’s times were slower than the week before, but Olson highlighted two athletes who cut time this week. “Our most improved performance came from Ariel Cordova. He’s battled a couple injuries and some sickness this year, but he’s finally feeling healthy and improved his time by almost a full minute this race. Sydney Jacobson improved her time the same amount in the girls’ race.”

Olson also highlighted some of his middle school athletes. “Jaxon Buck led our middle school boys’ race, placing third overall and running a personal best. Jaxon never misses a workout and will be really fun to watch the next few years. Sisters Hailey and Natalie McNiven continue to push each other in the middle school girls’ races this year. They’re both such fun kids to coach. They come to practice each night ready to work and do it all with a smile on their faces.”

The middle school team will be running Friday morning in Thermopolis with race time starting at 10 a.m.  and the high school team will compete at the Foxes and Hounds race in Cody Friday afternoon.
