Ladies Huskies show growth at North Big Horn tournament as volleyball season gets underway

The North Big Horn Tournament always provides the Lady Huskies opportunities to go up against some bigger teams and this past weekend was no exception. Pool play was a little thrown off Friday when a team unexpectedly didn’t show, but Coach Erin Bassett said it worked to their advantage. “Instead of disturbing the other pool, we opted to divide up matches and play each team twice. It was great because not only did we get an additional match, but we got to play teams we won’t play later in the season.”

Husky cross country off to a strong start at Billings invite

In a field of 30 schools and 124 runners, the Burlington Huskies performed well at the Billings Invitational on Friday.
“I feel like our hard work during the summer months really paid off in our first meets of the season,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “It’s always exciting to see what kind of results we can get after so many months without competition from other schools. We were really pleased with how things turned out.

Rebels back on the road this weekend

With the Farson trip behind them, the Riverside Rebels will head to Encampment later this week for the second leg of a grueling three-week road trip to open the season.
By the time they arrive home after a Sept. 14 roadie to Hulett, they’ll have logged more than 1,500 highway miles with playing a single contest on their home field.

Burlington gridders face tough road test this week at Little Snake River

The Huskies spent Friday at the Jamboree in Farson.
“Overall, the Jamboree was a good experience for us,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “We got to look at a lot of kids in different situations. Farson, Dubios, Encampment and Riverside were there and we got to play each of them in some capacity.
“It seemed like everyone was playing things close to the vest, but it was still a good time for us to scrimmage against someone else.”
While no scores or stats were kept, the Huskies had some big takeaways.

Riverside trap team competes at State

The Wyoming Trap Shooting State Tournament took place in Torrington at the end of June and nine members of Riverside’s team competed.
“The state tournament is a really fun time and a great experience for the kids,” said Coach Calvin Brown. “They get to see and compete against kids from around the state, at a nice shooting facility, with multiple trap fields all going on at once.”

Local golfers place in BHB shootout

Several local golfers won net or gross recognition at the end of a two-day tournament hosted last weekend by Midway Golf Club and Green Hills Golf Club in Worland.
The 24 teams, competing in A and B flights, played an 18-hole round at Midway on Saturday before finishing up with 18 more at Green Hills on Sunday.
