Christmas Tour of Homes is Saturday

Grab your Passbook for the Christmas Tour of Homes this Saturday at the Basin City Arts Center.
Doors Open from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for the purchase of your Tour Passbook at $10 per person. Five homes will be open from 1-5 p.m. and your Tour Passbook will be stamped as you enter.
After touring homes, come back to the arts center from 4:30-6 p.m. for refreshments and a Cookie Jar Silent Auction.  The six cookie jars will be filled to the brim with Christmas goodies.

Big Horn County 4-H holds Achievement Night celebration

Big Horn County 4-H recognized the contributions of its volunteer leaders and success of its members during its recent Achievement Night celebration.
The evening’s highlights included the presentation of nine-year member pins, considered the greatest milestone in 4-H, along with a variety of special awards recognizing outstanding achievement in 4-H.
The following Big Horn County 4-Hers received nine-year jackets: Evelyn Brown, Roseannah Brown, Hanna Haley, Kenadee Rael, Gabriel VanderPloeg, Keyanna Walker, and Macie Hopkin.

UW releases new findings on economic impact of agriculture

A new publication by the University of Wyoming Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics reports that economic activity related to agricultural production contributed $2.526 billion to Wyoming’s economy in 2021.
This total includes direct farm-gate sales from 11 agricultural industries as well as related business-to-business purchases and spending by agricultural households.

Mr. C.F. Johnson, manager of the Lovell refinery of the Great Western Sugar Company, and Mr. H.S. Looper, agriculturist, were visitors in Basin on Tuesday, here for the purpose of making the last checking up on the beets of this section. These gentlemen were delighted with the record made this year.

Burlington senior Michaels earns Heisman Scholarship recognition

Burlington High School senior Jessica Michaels was recognized as a school winner in the Heisman High School Scholarship competition. Thousands of student-athletes from across the country applied for the honor awarded by The Heisman Trophy Trust.

Food Bank of Wyoming showcases significant 2023 statewide impact

Food Bank of Wyoming is finding new ways to meet the rising food needs of our neighbors across the state. Despite dealing with inflation, supply chain issues, and increased costs, Food Bank of Wyoming was still able to rise to the challenge and provide nourishing meals across the state as demonstrated in their 2023 Impact Report.

Collections underway for Basin Area Food Bank

The Basin Area Food Bank has started collecting for the annual Christmas basket giveaway.
Previous collections for this basket were used for the Thanksgiving baskets due to a huge turnout for over 100 baskets. The food bank is basically starting over in food collection for Christmas.
Non-perishable items may be donated at Basin Market or the Basin Area Chamber. Monetary donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 284, Basin, WY, 82410.

Stories of Medicine Lodge come to life with new interactive experience

The new Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site will soon have what some may call a world class experience.
An addition was added to house a cultural experience like no other in Wyoming and possibly the United States.  As you go through the exhibit you will be taken back in time.

Owen’s battle: Spaghetti, silent auction fundraiser set

On Sunday, December 10, the public is invited to a fundraiser at the Greybull Rec Center for Owen Kinane. Owen is two. He was diagnosed with leukemia in September. His parents are Rebecca and Roman Kinane. His younger brother is Griffin.

An old country Christmas in Burlington

From Snowmen, to the Grinch, to the Mayor of Whoville and Cindy Lou Who, to Santa, Burlington put on a celebration reminiscent of Christmases in times past.
It all started with an idea from Pauline Parker for the snowmen to be all over the community and surrounding area. She and husband Wayne made and painted over 300 snow people to help bring a community spirit to the area. The community celebration grew out of that.
