Rita Fern Foster

May 31, 1940 – Jan. 10, 2022

Rita Fern Foster, 81, passed away peacefully at her home January 10, 2022, with her son, Steve, and granddaughter, Amber, by her side.

Rita was born in Hart, Texas, to Hobson T. Sanders and Ilo Bell Sanders on May 31, 1940. She was the youngest of nine children.

In Rita’s day, going to school was a treat for the children. Almost every day they would get pulled from school to go pick cotton. When Rita left home, she married James Coleman and had three boys, Jim, Lyndel and Steve. The two went separate ways after their last child, Steve, was born.

Rita was a singer in a small band. This is where she met Charles H. Foster Jr., and they married in 1971. Charles was a command sergeant major for the Army. Rita was a military spouse for 11 years. When Charles was stationed at Ft. Hood Rita took a banking job and stayed in Ft. Hood while her husband was deployed. In 1982 Charles became a government meat inspector, and Rita moved around with him for his job. Rita and Charles later separated.

In 2008 Rita moved to Lovell to be close to her youngest son and his children. She enjoyed being able to be at their sporting events, cheering them on. Rita was loved by many and will forever be remembered for her spicy personality.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, son Lyndel and all her siblings.

Rita is survived by her oldest son, Jim (Kelly) Coleman, of Loveland, Colorado, youngest son Steve Coleman of Lovell, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
