Burlington Pioneer Days this Saturday
The public is invited to all the fun and activities this Saturday as Burlington celebrates Pioneer Day to the theme of “Stand for Something.”
The festivities begin Friday with a basketball tournament in the Burlington gyms. Teams are for high-school aged and older. Contact Ross Davidson to register at 307-762-3497.
The rest of the celebration occurs on Saturday, starting with the flag ceremony at 7 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Boy Scouts will be conducting the ceremony.
The 5k run will begin at 8 a.m. at the LDS Church. There is no entry fee. The race is open to all ages. Contact Alisha at 307-762-3666 for more information.
The parade down Burlington’s Main Street begins at 10 a.m. with lineup starting at 9:30 a.m. at the school parking lot. Contact Jerry or Vicki George to enter or for more information at 307-762-3726.
The annual Pioneer Days program at the LDS church is at 11 a.m. followed by a free lunch at noon.
Children’s games begin at 1 p.m. on the church lawn. Pioneer Day organizer Carol McIntosh said there will be games for younger and older children.
Susan Neves and Dianna Wiles are organizing the co-ed volleyball tournament in the town park with games starting at 2 p.m. Teams can pre-register or register the day of the tournament. Co-ed teams must have at least three female players, but can have more. Anyone age 12 and older is invited to participate, Wiles said.
Teams will play in a round robin format with the top teams then seeded into bracket play to determine a champion. For more information, contact Neves at 307-762-3509 or Wiles at 307-762-3692.
The final event is the family dance at the LDS church from 8-11 p.m.
