William ‘Bill’ Madison Rosewarne
July 8, 1937 - June 20, 2010
An informal memorial service for William “Bill” Madison Rosewarne will be held today (Thursday, July 1) at 4 p.m. at the Greybull City Park for those who would like to pay their respects. Bill, 72, died June 20 at his home in Greybull of a heart attack.
He was born July 8, 1937, in Granite, Colo., the son of Marith Nisja and William M. Rosewarne. He spent his early years in Twin Lakes, Colo., where his mother taught in a one-room schoolhouse and his grandmother Ruth Nisja was the storekeeper. The family moved to Riverton while Bill was in grade school. He graduated from Riverton High School in 1956.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1958. After his discharge he attended the University of Wyoming where he earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1970.
He married Linda Joyce Metzger in 1964. They lived in Los Angeles before returning to Laramie where Bill finished college.
After Bill’s graduation the couple moved to Riverton where Bill worked for Gilpatrick Construction, R.D. Connell Engineering and Inberg Surveying.
The family lived in Sheridan from 1974 until 1985 while Bill worked for Peter Kiewit and Sons at Decker, and Big Horn Coal. In 1986, Kiewit transferred him to Nevada to head up the Nevada Gold District. In 1988, he became an independent consultant and surveyor around the western states.
The couple were divorced.
Bill returned to Wyoming in 1999 and spent time surveying in Kemmerer, Afton, Cody, Basin and Greybull, where he came to work on a city water project in 2005. He has resided in Greybull since 2006.
Bill was known for his humor and charm. He was a voracious reader and loved learning. A hard worker, he believed in being thrifty and being on time. He was a supporter of the U.S. military and proud of his service to his country.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Ruth Dineen Rosewarne; his son, William Metzger, and one granddaughter.
Donations to his granddaughter’s (Jillian Elizabeth Rosewarne) college fund are being accepted at Chase Bank.
