Kania considers bid for mayor
Basin Planning and Zoning Chairman Amy Kania announced Monday that she is establishing an exploratory committee to discuss her potential bid for Basin mayor.
Kania said the committee was scheduled to hold its first meeting Wednesday.
“At this meeting we will discuss options and opportunities for the town of Basin. Since I have lived in Basin, I have participated in various aspects of this community including participation in the Planning Commission and town council meetings,” Kania said.
She added, “I believe I will bring to the table my strong sense of community and common sense leadership while utilizing my business background to incorporate fundamental principles in the day to day operation and long-term future of the town.”
Mayor Phil Juillard has served the town as mayor for 22 years and as a councilman for 10 years. He has announced on several occasions that after 32 years of service he does not plan on seeking re-election. The filing period for federal, state, county and local government offices is May 13-28.
Council positions up this year are positions currently held by Dave Cooper and Mike Lewis.
