Larry G. Martin, 75, of Cathlamet, Wash., passed away on Jan. 27, 2010, in Phoenix, Ariz.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1934, in Baker, Mont., to Bernard and Mae (Foltz) Martin. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from Montana State College.
He was a family man whose passions were hunting, fishing, camping and being with his grandchildren. He held “Grandpa’s Gator Driving School” and prided himself in “extorting” fresh homemade cookies from anyone who would fall for his ruse. His research into his family genealogy resulted in two books. His adventures took his family to many different locations around the U.S., Hawaii and Mexico. His favorite place was on Puget Island, Wash., which sits right in the middle of his beloved Columbia River. A highlight of his life was celebrating his 5oth anniversary at his home on Puget Island — a celebration of family and friends, music and dancing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Connie, children; Doug (Jill), Dan, Russell, Theresa Martin-Cox, Clay (Kira) and Brenda (Bradley) Kaser, brothers; Don and Jim, sister, Sister Marie Bernard, grandchildren; Mindy, Miranda, Jennie, Katherine, Tre, Maxwell, Shyla, Maggy Raphael and Sophia and one great-grandson Jordan.
A memorial service will be Feb. 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherines Catholic Church, 400 Columbia St. Cathlamet, Wash.
His final wish was to have his life celebrated with joy, laughter, bright colors, and loving company. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Arrangements in Arizona are being handled by Hansen Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars at PO Box 498, Cathlamet, WA 89602; or Fallon County Historical Society at 723 S. Main Street, Baker, MT 59313.
