Manderson stabbing sends woman to hospital

By BRENDA TENBOER

A young mother was taken by ambulance to Washakie Medical Center after being stabbed at her Manderson home on Sunday evening.

Clarence Cliame, 35, of Manderson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with intent to cause bodily harm in connection with the stabbing.

The initial 911 call was placed by a female who lived in the mobile home with Cliame and his girlfriend Tera Beason, 19.

Shannon Long (Reed) told dispatchers she woke to Tera’s screams about 5 p.m. and discovered Beason had a “puncture wound.” Long applied pressure to the wound to slow the bleeding until emergency providers could arrive, according to law enforcement reports.

Big Horn County Sheriff’s deputies Jason Dollarhide and Bob McGuire, Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper B.J. Kigil and Bureau of Land Management Ranger Aaron Kania were the first to arrive on scene along with Manderson EMTs.

Sheriff Ken Blackburn said Beason’s wound was severe and that she was whisked to the Worland hospital in only 16 minutes.

Surgery was required to repair a possibly punctured lung and a broken rib, according to law enforcement reports.

Long told authorities she was babysitting a 3-month-old infant at the time of the stabbing and had no idea how it happened.

Beason told deputies she was running through the house and fell on the knife, but the wound was too high up to be consistent with her story, according to reports.

Law enforcement investigators eventually determined that Cliame, who is the father of Beason’s child, allegedly stabbed her with the blade of a 6-inch Winchester folding knife that was fastened to the end of a 3-foot piece of wood.

Cliame, at the time of his arrest, said he did not know what had taken place and said that he had a hard time remembering, but did make reference to angels and certain biblical events, according to court documents.

Investigators located cuts consistent with the blade in furniture and a mattress in the home, according to Blackburn.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jim Hallman said this isn’t the first violent crime alleged to have been committed by Cliame.

“He has an extensive felony record,” Hallman said during the hearing.

Beason is still a patient at Washakie Medical Center as of Tuesday afternoon but a medical update on her condition could not be provided by medical staff.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 in Basin. Cliame remains jailed unable to post a $50,000 cash bond.
