Celebrating wedding and career anniversaries
Anniversaries mark special or memorable occasions. On Sept. 4, I celebrated two anniversaries.
The first was extra special — 10 years as Mrs. Alan Pomeroy. We celebrated with a trip to Denver to watch the Colorado Rockies sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was great fun, great weather and the baseball was exciting with the Rockies in the pennant race.
On the drive down I reminisced about our wedding, which was somewhat non-traditional. But I could remember a lot of details and I remember hearing some of my friends, who had much larger, elaborate weddings, say that they barely remember their wedding day.
Although I wrote a column back then about how I tried to get my dog in the wedding, it didn’t happen but the wedding was special nonetheless and the marriage has been even more special.
We’ve shared some heartache as all couples do with the loss of my parents and the loss of our dog. We’ve had many joys as well, including adding two new dogs to our family, Alan taking me on my first successful hunting trip, trips to Rockies games including the World Series, trips to Arizona to see his family, and just spending those special hours alone — when we get a few minutes in between our busy jobs.
It’s really hard to believe that it’s been 10 years. The time truly has seemed to fly by so there will be know jokes about 10 years seeming like 100 years. It’s been a 10 years of blessings and changes. The biggest changes coming in where we have lived, moving from Lovell to Laramie and then to Basin, which brings me to my next anniversary.
It was Labor Day weekend 2008 when I began official duties as the editor of the Basin Republican Rustler. It’s been a joy and privilege to serve this community in that capacity for one year. I’ve enjoyed getting to know many people, but realize there are still many yet to become acquainted with and I hope I am here for a long time in order to be able to do that.
I’ve enjoyed covering your sons and daughters in school activities, keeping you abreast of the decisions of the town council and the county commissioners, as well as helping the staff keep you informed about the hospital board, fair board, airport board, solid waste board and much more.
It’s been a busy year with the historic General Election held just two months after I moved here. There’ve been lots of meetings to cover, events to take pictures of including covering my first Lilac Days and returning to the Big Horn County Fair this summer.
This next year looks to be just as entertaining and full of news and I hope you continue to choose the Basin Republican Rustler as your source for local news and enjoy reading the articles we publish. I know I will enjoy covering Basin, Manderson, Burlington, Hyattville and south Big Horn County.
