Good results but no new AQ or school records for Huskies

By MARLYS GOOD
It was the same old story for the Burlington Huskies Saturday at the Lovell Invitational Track Meet — not a full roster; seniors away on their annual Senior Trip, others gone to attend a wedding. Even head Coach Albert Henderson was conspicuous by his absence, which was a bit out of the ordinary.
Those who did attend did well although there were no new state qualifiers, nor were any new school records set, although “Paige (Neves) was close in the 100-meter hurdles, and Lindsey (Wardell) close in the 300-hurdles.”
Brandy Bullinger swept the 800- and 1,600-events with times of 2:237.84 and 5:48.12 respectively, and Neves, Wardell and Brecka Carrizales made it a one-two-three Lady Husky sweep in the shorter hurdles, with Wardell and Neves finishing first and second in the 300-hurdles.
Neves, back on track for the first time since the opening meet, won the pole vault going 8-6, and her sister Sadie, took third at 6-6. In a Burlington dominance, Aimee Davidson and Jamie Dehl tied for fourth.
With pole-vaulting specialists Shawn Christiansen and Wesley Neves not in attendance, Ben Cook carried the Husky banner into the pole vault and captured first with a vault of 11-6. Landon Tolman ran a 56.36 second place time in the 400-meers with Jacob Bullinger finishing fourth and Gary Hibbert, fifth.
Frank Gould finished second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:18.11 and Tolman was just a tick behind with a third place time of 2:28.79.
The Huskies will be in Thermopolis Friday, and, as usual, the roster could be depleted. Four Huskies, Eric McNiven in the 400, Justin Preator in the high jump, and Neves and Christiansen in the pole vault, have been invited to compete in the annual Wyoming Track Classic (formerly Meet of Champions) in Casper.
For the Lady Huskies, Wardell has been invited to compete in the 300-meter hurdles, Neves in the pole vault and Michelle Fabricius in the high jump.
Saturday the Huskies head to Meeteetse — trying to get in as many meets as possible before regionals.
