Valuation climbs this year; county coffers will take a hit in 2010 as Wyoming loses mineral money

The good news is Big Horn County valuation is expected to top last year’s mark by $60 million meaning more money in county coffers this year. The bad news is county officials and residents should prepare for drastic budget cuts in 2010 due to slumping gas and oil sales.

Airport board seeks full control of airports

The Big Horn County Airport board of trustees want to control all operations at both airports in the county, including taking over financial management.
The request was presented by airport board chairman Dave Flitner at a county commission meeting on Tuesday.

Citizens concerned about lodge, seek joint powers board to re-open ski area

The Otto Babe Ruth team split a double-header with Greybull last Friday, winning the first game 11-7 but getting edged in the second game 11-9.
Tyler Burke started on the mound for Otto and went the distance.

Board closes ‘used-car lot’ at fairgrounds
Preliminary budget request submitted

The “used-car lot” at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds parking lot is closed.
The fair board of trustees determined at a regular meeting Monday night that used cars and trailers for-sale-by-owner will no longer be allowed to sit on fairgrounds property.

Celebrations make small towns special
My first summer in Basin meant my first Lilac Day celebration last Saturday.
Whether it was the nice weather (for most of the day at least), working in the yard or perhaps other events in the area, the crowd was small but enthusiastic.

Raw water, electrical rates to increase
