National Guard overwhelmed with Christmas packages from Big Horn Basin

Wyoming soldiers of the 115th Fires Brigade received hundreds of packages and letters of support from their communities this Christmas.
First Sergeant Tim Metro said via e-mail that he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

New prison to chop county jail revenue, jobs at stake

The $125.6 million prison opening next month near Torrington created many new jobs but some Big Horn County residents may lose jobs in the process.
Sheriff Ken Blackburn said Monday that the Department of Corrections contracts with the county detention center to hold between 12 and 16 inmates each day, which generates between $600 to $900 each day.

Lady Huskies topple 2A opponents, stay unbeaten in 2009

The Burlington Lady Huskies closed out the 2009 portion of the basketball season by mowing down Greybull, Riverside and Rocky Mountain, in that order, last week. The Lady Grizzlies put up the hardest fight, and forced Burlington to reach deep to pull out the win in a tough, physical man-to-man battle Saturday.

Rebels improve on defense against Burlington Huskies

TR Lady Eagles take Lady Rebels to the wood shed

“It’s a tough place to play and a big challenge for us,” said Riverside Lady Rebel Coach Michael McGuire last week, as he looked ahead to his team’s trip over the mountain to play Tongue River Saturday. When the Lady Eagles ripped off an 18-3 first-quarter lead, McGuire and his team knew it was going to be a long evening. Tongue River went on to win by 40 points (60-20).

Lady Rebels come out of the chute with two wins at BHB Shootout

OT win over Lovell gives Lady Huskies sweep of Shootout opponents

After breezing by Big Piney 56-28 in the opener, and demolishing Wind River 79-26 Friday evening, Burlington and Lovell went toe-to-toe through four periods before Burlington eked out the 66-64 victory in overtime.
