BHC voter turnout set at 85 percent
Otto, Hyattville top all county precincts

Significant increases in the number of absentee ballots and new voter registrations made last week’s general election a little more challenging than usual for the Big Horn County Clerk’s office.
By week’s end the results of the Nov. 4 voting had been canvassed and Clerk Dori Noyes and her team of election workers were busy calculating voter turnout percentages for each of the county’s 13 precincts.

Residents concerned about lack of notification on substation

Eight North Eighth Street residents crowded into the council chambers Monday evening to voice concerns about the north side electrical substation that is planned in that neighborhood.
Kimberly Cowan told the council that the residents were there for a number of reasons including the fact that they were told nothing about the project, they were concerned about property values and wondered why that location was selected and why the south side substation could not be upgraded.

There will be two new members on the Big Horn County School District No. 4 Board with Martin Mercer defeating incumbent Cecil Mullins for the Area K-Manderson/Hyattville seat and Misty Vanderploeg defeating Mark Boyles for one of two Basin seats on the board.

Residents participate in government processes
Basin residents have participated in a number of governmental processes this week. On Monday, eight residents from North Eighth Street appeared before the Basin Town Council to speak about the new north side electrical substation the town will be building soon. The nearly hour-long discussion was civil with several sides presented and several concerns expressed.

Substation site work under way

Site work for the new electrical substation to service the north side of Basin is now under way.
Basin electrician Eric Lowe said in an interview Tuesday construction of the station should be completed by the end of December or mid January. It is hoped that the station will be online and supplying power to the north half of the town by the 2009 summer, Lowe said.

Lady Rebels take No. 2 seed into State Tournament;

This season the Riverside Rebel volleyball team went undefeated. They won the conference title. They earned a second-place seed at the State Tournament.
Three goals met, but still the Lady Rebels aren’t satisfied. They’d like nothing better than to take the 2A field by storm and bring home the championship trophy from the State Tournament in Casper Oct. 30-Nov. 1. A hard task? Yes. Are the Lady Rebels up to that task? Definitely. If the team can stay focused, play hard and up to its ability and not let the ball bounce on the Rebel side of the net.
