Tough Wind River 'D' stifles Rebels run game

The Riverside Rebels hung close for three quarters but two fourth-quarter touchdowns spelled trouble as Riverside fell to the Wind River Cougars on the road last Thursday 28-7 to end the regular season 5-3 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Swine flu widespread, vaccine slow in coming

With nearly 600 cases of the H1N1 influenza (swine flu) the Wyoming Department of Health is considering the strain widespread across Wyoming.
According to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) Web site, there has been high levels of reported illnesses over the last several weeks with activity levels at or above typical peaks seen with seasonal influenza. (Widespread means WDH has received sustained reports of increased influenza from across most or all of Wyoming at typical peak levels.)

The upstart Riverside Lady Rebels, forced to play a pigtail match to earn a fourth-seed berth in the 2A West Regional Volleyball Tournament in Lander last weekend, are on their way to the 2A State Tournament in Casper this weekend thanks in part to an upset of top-seeded Wind River in the tournament opener. Riverside then topped Kemmerer in a state-qualifying game Saturday morning.

Lady Huskies win regional championship

Two down and one to go for the Burlington Lady Huskies. After claiming the conference championship at the conclusion of the regular season, and the 1A West Regional Volleyball Tournament championship with a three-set 25-23, 25-18, 26-24 victory over Cokeville Saturday in Lander, the Lady Huskies have their eyes set on the 1A state title in Casper this weekend.

Huskies go down quietly

Burlington’s season ended in quiet fashion Friday in Cokeville.
The Huskies made the long trip, needing a win to secure a berth in the Class 1A football playoffs. What they got was their worst defeat of the season, as the Panthers erupted for 31 second-quarter points en route to a 44-0 victory.

Trucking owner wants salvage yard

There were cheers and tears in the Riverside gym at the conclusion of the 2A West Regional play-in volleyball match Monday night. The good news was the cheers were for the Lady Rebels who beat the Greybull Lady Buffs in three sets, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 to advance in the West Regional Tournament in Lander this weekend.

Lady Huskies go 3-1 at weekend duals

 

The Burlington Lady Huskies went 3-1 at the Greybull-Riverside duals last weekend, needing just six sets to defeat Saratoga, 25-15, 25-13, Lovell, 25-19, 25-18 and Moorcroft, 25-19, 25-15. Then they ran up against the fired-up Lady Eagles, whom they had beaten twice earlier this season. Tongue River was more than ready and stuck Burlington, 25-17, 26-28, 13-15.

Body of missing Shell man found near Lovell   

 

The family of Bobby Brinkerhoff is finally getting some closure after the Shell man drowned while boating on the Big Horn River in May. Hunters from Jackson were in the process of setting up a duck blind on the river about three miles south of Lovell when they discovered Brinkerhoff’s body on Saturday.
