The Otto Rattlers Minor League team peaked at the right time by finishing second to the Synergy Construction Dodgers at the Minor Interleague Tournament Thursday in Lovell.
The Rattler Minors began tournament play by upsetting the number-one seed Powell Mets 14-4. Kyler Winters ripped two hits for Otto and scored four runs, and Selena Call had two hits and scored a run.
Brikton Wardell started on the mound for Otto and pitched one inning, striking out two Powell batters, Call relieved Wardell and pitched two innings for the Rattlers, fanning five, Winters came in for Call and pitched the final innings, striking out three.
With the win, Otto advanced to the semifinals and crushed the Powell Red Sox 23-7 to advance to Thursday’s championship game. Winters led the team with two hits and scored three runs. Will Hatch and Wardell each had a hit and scored three runs. Matthew Tempany and Call each had a hit and scored two runs.
Winters started on the hill for Otto and pitched one inning, striking out one Powell batter. Hatch relieved Winters and pitched the final inning, fanning three.
In Thursday’s championship game, Otto fell to the Synergy Construction Dodgers 24-3 to finish second in the tournament.
Rebecca Bullinger, Winters, Colt Haslem and Call each had a hit for the Rattlers. Bullinger, Winters and Haslem each scored a run.
“It was pretty amazing,” coach Janalee Call said. “To start with a team at the beginning of the season with three returning players and a lot of inexperience and see them come together as a team was just awesome.”
Otto Rattler Minor league player Selena Call said the coach was a big part to the team’s success in the tournament.
“The coach was a big piece of the puzzle,” Call said.
The Otto Rattler Major League squad fell to the Powell Rockies 11-1 June 25, at Homesteader Park in Powell.
Jessie Michaels rapped two hits for Otto and scored the lone run for the team. Cody McNulty, Rychael Andrew and Connor Hatch each had a hit in the game.
Toby McNulty started on the mound for Otto and pitched one inning, striking out one Powell batter. Cody McNulty came in for McNulty and pitched two innings, fanning four. Noah McCracken relieved Cody McNulty and pitched an inning, striking out two. Michaels came in for McCracken and pitched the final inning, fanning two.
