Two Rebels finalists for state scholar-athlete honor

Two of the three Riverside Rebels nominated as part of the Wyoming chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame state’s top football Scholar-Athlete award were named as finalists.

Mike Miller, Tyler Williamson and Brynnt Wood were among the 72 scholar-athlete nominated from 32 different high schools.

Riverside Coach Adam Tri said he received word two weeks ago that Miller and Williamson were among the 11 finalists. Two senior student-athletes from each of the five Wyoming high school classifications and the University of Wyoming will be honored at the chapter’s 18th annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet to be held March 17 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Laramie. The Rebels were honored for Class 1A 11-man.

All of the finalists will receive commemorative plaques and $1,200 scholarships from the chapter and the state’s top scholar-athlete, who will be announced at the event, will receive an additional scholarship. Nine state residents will also be recognized during the banquet for their respective contributions to fandom, contributions to amateur football and achievement in coaching and officiating.

The state’s top scholar-athlete will earn another $1,200 scholarship and compete with 24 other chapter winners for the Western Regional Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.

According to final statistics, this year Miller on offense had 1,499 all-purpose yards with 15 touchdowns. He had 213 carries, 12 TDs and 1,252 yards on the ground and 23 catches, two TDs and 247 receiving yards. On defense, Miller had 69 defensive points to finish second on the team.
